Jacqueline Fernandez was born in Manama and was raised by the multiracial, mixed-ethnic family. Her father Elroy is a Sri Lankan (Catholic Sinhalese) and her mother, Kim is a Malaysian. In 2006 she was named the Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Universe 2006 in March, 2006 and also competed in Miss Universe 2006. After winning Miss Sri Lanka in 2006, Padukone began working on television. She was the host of the program Lanka Business Report which focused on the business of Sri Lanka. Padukone, her mother was the famous badminton player Prakash Padukone, was born in Copenhagen and raised in Bangalore. She was a badminton player at the national championships while an teen, but she gave her sports career up to pursue a career as a model. Padukone is from Mangalorean heritage, and her mother tongue is Konkani. Her ancestors hail from the village Padukone in Kundapura Taluk, in the Udupi district in Karnataka state, which is located in India. Prakash Padukone was a badminton legend who retired in the 1980s. She has a mother who runs who worked for a travel agent, is also from the village.
